Life at MVG *

This expresses how we choose to live together, care for one another, and reflect Christ's love in our daily lives. While each resident brings unique experiences, beliefs, and perspectives, we are united by our commitment to practice compassion, creativity, courage, hospitality, and mutual respect.

Communities can be defined in many ways—by geography, demographics, or income. At Monte Vista Grove, we believe our community is best defined by how we live together.

We are a vibrant, Christ-centered community where older adults seek to flourish in the third act of life by practicing compassion, creativity, and courage.

Founded in 1924 to serve retired PCUSA ministers and mission workers, Monte Vista Grove has grown into a community of people with diverse life experiences, vocations, backgrounds, perspectives, and Christian traditions. While we recognize that we do not yet reflect the full diversity of the communities around us, we are committed to becoming an increasingly welcoming and inclusive community.

Inspired by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s commitment to radical hospitality, justice, compassion, and the belief that every person is created in the image of God, we seek to cultivate a community where every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and love. We welcome individuals and couples—including same-sex couples—and strive to ensure that all who call Monte Vista Grove “home” experience a true sense of belonging.

We believe our differences enrich our community. Residents come from a wide variety of professions, cultures, life experiences, theological perspectives, and personal backgrounds. We recognize that respectful conversations, thoughtful disagreement, and a willingness to listen with humility deepen our understanding of one another and strengthen our shared life together. Residents express these values in many different ways through service, generosity, volunteerism, civic engagement, and advocacy.

Our campus offers more than beautiful surroundings—it is a place where relationships flourish, purpose continues, and every resident is invited to contribute their unique gifts to the life of the community.

Together, we strive to be a community that:
  • Honors the dignity and worth of every person as a beloved child of God.

  • Welcomes people of different backgrounds, experiences, identities, and perspectives.

  • Practices radical hospitality so that every resident feels valued, respected, safe, and included.

  • Listens with curiosity, humility, grace, and compassion.

  • Encourages lifelong learning, spiritual growth, and meaningful friendships.

  • Supports one another in living lives of purpose, service, and joy.

  • Cares faithfully for one another and for the resources entrusted to our community.

  • If this type of community appeals to you, we invite you to join us in the third third of your life.
